Configuring and enabling Community Engagement (CP and non-IB) worksheets

For admins and coordinators setting up Community Engagement for the whole school and for each year group.

Name the programme and choose its icon

Go to Settings > select Programme > Community Engagement > Overview, fill in these fields and save your changes.

Field What it does
Title The name of the Community Engagement project. Teachers, parents and students see it across ManageBac+.
Abbreviation Used where there is not enough space for the title, and to avoid repetition.
Icon Choose an icon for your programme. It shows on the student profile and the Year Group calendar.
Description Optional. Shows in the right-hand menu of the project page for teachers and students.

Choose what the worksheet includes

Go to Settings > select Programme > Community Engagement > Framework, turn on the options you need and save your changes.

Option What it does
Aims & Goals Statement Students are asked to enter their aims and goals for the project. Use the text box to give students optional guidance, which shows in the student view.
Awards Create custom awards to give to students.
Learning Outcomes Outcomes are tracked across activities for the length of the project. A student's completion depends on how many outcomes they cover. You set the default outcomes here, and each year group can change them.
Documents Shows the document uploader on the student worksheet.
Notes & Interviews Students and teachers can message each other on the worksheet. Teachers can record interview notes, which only admins and teachers can see.
Questions Questions are added in the year group settings and can be linked to a learning outcome. Students answer them in each activity, based on the learning outcomes they select.
Community Engagement Project If the Extended Project option is on, students can mark activities as Extended Project activities. You can rename Extended Project on the Terminology page.

Manage service types

  1. Go to Settings > select Programme > Community Engagement > Service Types.

  2. Add or edit the service types used to classify activities. Set a title, abbreviation and colour label for each.

  3. Set recommended hour targets for each type. Reorder or remove types as needed.

Change terminology and progress statuses

  1. Go to Settings > select Programme > Community Engagement > Terminology and edit the labels to suit your school.

  2. Update the student progress statuses and icons, and add or change status options.

Keep terminology consistent and familiar to your school community.

Turn on evaluation

  1. Go to Settings > select Programme > Assessment > Assessment Models > Term > Community Engagement.

  2. Turn on Community Engagement evaluation for Term assessment. A Community Engagement tab then shows in the rubrics menu.

  3. Select the pencil icon to change criteria values and descriptors.

Set up a year group

  1. Go to Year Group > Edit Year Group Settings. Tick Track Service house for this group if you want students to track hours.

  2. Customise the learning outcomes for the year group. Select Add Learning Outcomes to add one, or drag and drop to reorder them.

  3. Select Add Question to add or edit reflection questions for the year group, and choose the linked learning outcomes.

Changing learning outcomes or the framework may change how student progress is tracked on existing activities.

Send automatic reminder emails

  1. In the year group, open the Community Engagement tab and select Manage E-mail Reminders.

  2. Select the pencil icon to edit a reminder or the rubbish icon to delete it.

  3. Select Add Reminder to create a reminder. Set the subject and message, and turn reminders on or off as needed.

Can each year group have different settings?

Yes. Core settings are set for the programme, but each year group can have its own learning outcomes and questions.

Do I need to turn on hours tracking?

No. Hours tracking is optional. Turn it on if it suits your school's approach to Community Engagement.

Can I customise the evaluation rubrics?

Yes. You can customise rubrics to match your assessment criteria and reporting needs.
