Adding SL Activities

Students can add SL activities from their SL worksheet by clicking the Add SL Service button.

This will allow them to enter their activity details, including the:

  1. Service Name
  2. Approaches
  3. Start and End Dates
  4. Activity Supervisor Information (Name, Email Address, Phone Number, and Title)
  5. Targeted learning outcomes (if enabled by the SL Coordinator)

Once a student has added an activity, it will be submitted to the SL Advisor or SL Coordinator for approval.

 

Approving SL Activities 

As an SL Advisor or SL Coordinator, you can approve activities in two different ways.

Via Reviews & Progress > Service Learning > Approvals

If you've been assigned to students as their SL Advisor, you'll be able to approve activities in one click from Reviews & Progress > Service Learning.

 

Via the SL Worksheet

The second way to approve activities is by clicking into a student's SL worksheet, which you can access by selecting the year group under the Year Groups tab > SL tab. This will bring up the student roster. Select a student with New Changes.

On the student's SL worksheet, you will see the status for each Activity. When the Activity is showing 'To Be Determined', this indicates the activity requires approval, you can approve this by changing the status to 'Approved' from here.

You can also approve an activity by selecting the activity, select Approved from the service Status dropdown. This will notify the student via e-mail that her activity has been approved and that she is able to proceed.

 

Completing SL Questions and Reflections

To add reflections, students navigate to the Reflections & Evidence tab within an SL experience on their worksheet. Students can add Text, attach Files, insert Photos, link Videos or even record Audios under the Reflections tab. Each reflection can be linked to one or more of the targeted learning outcomes if learning outcomes have been enabled for the Group.

 

Reviewing SL Activities

Supervisor reviews are a way for specific activity supervisors to comment on the student’s progress, effort and commitment. In ManageBac+, you can integrate these comments directly into the student's SL Worksheet.

How to send a Review Request

In order to obtain an online SL Review from their activity supervisor, students must add at least one Reflection to the Reflections tab. Their SL advisor must also mark the activity as Approved. Only then will the Request Supervisor Review button appear. Either the student or the SL advisor can click on this to send an email request to the supervisor.

 

From the Supervisor's view

Once the Request Supervisor Review button is pressed, ManageBac+ will send an email to the supervisor. Please note supervisors do not have to have registered accounts on ManageBac+ to fill out the linked survey - anyone with a valid email address is eligible to receive email notifications.

The supervisor will click on the link in their email to complete a survey about the student's participation. They will be asked to comment on the student's progress. They will also be asked to tick each outcome the student completed successfully, and confirm the student completed the activity successfully. When they are done, they can click Submit Service Review to add the review to the student's worksheet.

Recording SL Interviews

Via Year Groups > SL > select student > Notes & Interviews

After clicking on a student under the SL tab in a year group, you can navigate to Notes & Interviews to add any comments or Record Interview Notes. This is a good place to stay in touch with your student's progress.
You'll be asked to enter your comments, and the date. Select Record as Interview Note and Comment to save changes.
