Overview
Personal Project and Community Project worksheets allow students to keep a portfolio of their project journey, including their proposal, process journal, uploaded documents, and deadlines. Teachers can review each student’s worksheet, monitor progress, and manage project related tasks from the same area.
From the project roster, you can also create deadlines for the year group and switch views to review overall progress or deadline completion status.
Step by Step Navigation
Accessing the project worksheet
- Open the relevant IB year group.
- Select the Personal Project or Community Project tab.
- Choose a student from the roster to open their worksheet, process journal, and assessment details.
From the roster page, you can also add deadlines for the year group.
Reviewing the Workspace and updating project status
- Open a student’s project worksheet from the Personal Project or Community Project tab.
- Review the Workspace, which displays the student’s project proposal, supervisor, and progress against deadlines and to dos.
- Use the status options on the right side of the page to update the student’s project progress.
- Under Project Status, mark the project as Approved and or Completed as needed.
Changing the status updates the student’s project icon and highlights them as On Track, Excellent, or Concern.
Creating project deadlines
- Open the Personal Project, Community Project, or Calendar tab in the year group.
- Click Add Deadline in the right navigation panel.
- Enter the basic details, including the deadline name, date, and time.
- Link the deadline to Personal Project or Community Project.
- Enable Coursework Submission if students should submit documents through ManageBac+.
- Enable Turnitin Feedback Studio if submitted coursework should be checked through Turnitin automatically.
- Attach files if you would like students to access them from the deadline.
- Click Add Deadline to save it and display it on the calendar.
Adding To Do items to a deadline
- After creating the deadline, add at least one To Do item.
- Assign the To Do to students, advisors, or everyone.
- Save the To Do items so the deadline can appear on the student worksheet.
If a To Do is assigned only to students, advisors will not be able to tick it off. The same applies in reverse for student access.
Reviewing student status and deadline progress
- Open the Personal Project or Community Project tab.
- Review the default roster view, which groups students by advisor and displays statuses such as Needs Approval, Approved, and Complete.
- Switch to the Deadlines view to review progress against specific global deadlines.
Uploading project documents and posting notes
- Open a student’s project worksheet from the Personal Project or Community Project tab.
- Under Project Documents, upload relevant files.
- If your school uses Google Drive integration, choose the option to upload files directly from Google Drive.
- Scroll to the bottom of the worksheet to record a note or interview entry.
- Enter text in Notes and click Post Note.
- Tick Record as Interview Note if the note should be stored as an interview note.
Posted notes are emailed to the student and also appear in their ManageBac+ notifications inbox. Students can respond to continue the conversation. Use the three vertical dots to edit a note, or the bin icon to delete it.
Using the Meeting with Supervisor tab
- Open the Meeting with Supervisor tab from the student’s project area.
- Review meeting notes recorded by the student as part of the updated Academic Integrity form.
- Use the export option in the top right if you need to export the form.
- Add the overall Supervisor comment at the bottom of the tab when required.
This tab replaces the former Academic Honesty Form. Student meeting notes lock automatically five minutes after they have been recorded.
Warnings & Important Notes
- Community Project will only be available if it has been enabled in your year group settings.
- Once a worksheet is marked as Completed, students can no longer make changes. Untick the status if further edits are needed.
- You must link a deadline to Personal Project or Community Project when creating it. This cannot be added later.
- You must add at least one To Do item for a deadline to appear on the student worksheet.
- Interview Notes are hidden from students by default. An administrator can allow visibility via Settings > Security & Permissions > Browse Interview Notes.
- Student meeting notes in the Meeting with Supervisor tab lock automatically five minutes after they are recorded.
In Summary
- Personal Project and Community Project worksheets help teachers and students manage proposals, journals, documents, deadlines, and assessment progress.
- Teachers can update project status, create linked deadlines, add To Do items, and monitor overall student progress from the project tabs.
- Project documents, notes, interview notes, and supervisor meeting records can all be managed directly within the worksheet area.
These tools support clearer project tracking and communication throughout the student journey in ManageBac+.
