Quick answer

Open the year group and select the project tab to see the roster, then select a student to open their worksheet. Review the proposal, add documents and notes on the worksheet, and use Add Deadline in the Details panel to set project deadlines.

For project advisors and coordinators. Your school needs a project framework set up and turned on for the year group first: see Configuring & Enabling Project-based Learning (PBL) Frameworks.

See the roster and open a worksheet

Open the year group and select the project tab. The tab takes the name of your project, for example Research Project for A-Levels. The roster groups students by teacher: your own students first, then students without a teacher.

  • Use the view menu to switch between Proposal, Assessment and Deadlines. The Proposal view shows each student's answers and approval status, and Deadlines shows where each student is against every deadline.
  • Use Filter to narrow the list, and Lock Worksheets to stop students editing.
  • Open the Details panel for Add Deadline, Submit Term Evaluation, Export to Excel and Show Assessment Results to Students.

Select a student's name to open their worksheet. The worksheet holds the proposal, deadlines and to-dos, documents and notes. Depending on how your framework is set up, there may also be Journal, Assessment and Reflections tabs.

A New changes label appears next to a student when they post a message, upload a file or edit their worksheet. It stays until you review the student's worksheet.

Proposals

Students select Edit Proposal on their worksheet, answer the proposal questions your school has set up, choose their teacher and select Save Changes. The proposal then shows on the worksheet and in the roster's Proposal view with its approval status, for example Needs Approval. Advisors can also select Edit Proposal to update it.

A teacher or subject is missing from the list
  • Only teachers already in ManageBac+ appear. Coordinators can assign teachers in bulk from the year group Members page: see Assigning Project-based Learning (PBL) Advisors.
  • If a subject or language is missing, it has not been turned on in the programme's subjects. Ask your ManageBac+ administrator to add it.

Set deadlines and to-dos

  1. On the project tab, open the Details panel and select Add Deadline. You can also add a deadline from the year group Calendar.

  2. Enter the Name and Date & Time, and add notes or Attach Files if you need to.

  3. Under Link To, tick your project. You cannot link the deadline later.

  4. Use Student Differentiation to share it with selected students only. Under Additional Options, tick Coursework Submissions so students submit through ManageBac+, and Turnitin Feedback Studio if your school uses Turnitin.

  5. Select Add Deadline. It appears on the calendar.

Add at least one to-do to the deadline, or it will not show on student worksheets. Assign each to-do to students, advisors or everyone. Only the people a to-do is assigned to can tick it off.

Deadlines then appear on each student's worksheet, where you can review and add to-dos.

Upload documents

Add reference documents in the Documents section of the worksheet with Add Document. If your school uses the Google Drive integration, use Add From GDrive.

Notes and interview notes

Use Notes at the bottom of the worksheet for messages to the student, such as feedback or arranging a meeting. Select Post Note to send it. The note is also emailed, and students can reply.

To record an interview, write your note, tick Record as Interview Note, check the date and select Post Note. By default, only staff can see interview notes.

To let students see interview notes, an administrator turns on Browse Interview Notes under Students in Settings > Security & Permissions > General.
