Open a student's TOK worksheet
-
In your IB year group, select TOK Exhibition or TOK Essays to open the TOK roster.
-
Select a student's name. Their Workspace holds the TOK rubric, documents, deadlines and notes.
-
To set the essay title, select Edit Prescribed Title. Choose the prescribed title, enter the estimated number of words, choose the Teacher and select Save Changes. Students can do this themselves.
Only advisors already added to ManageBac+ show in the Teacher list. To assign TOK teachers in bulk from Year Group > Members, see Assigning Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Teachers.
TOK Exhibition or TOK Essays missing from the year group?
Ask an admin to enable the TOK worksheets in Year Group > Edit Year Group Settings. The year group must have the right grade level so the correct prescribed titles show.
Review the journal and Planning and Progress Form
-
Select the Journal tab to read the student's entries. Students add entries from the Add Entries list as text, files, videos, website links or images, and can link each entry to areas of knowledge and key concepts. Each file can be up to 500 MB.
-
Select the Planning and Progress Form tab to review the first, second and third interactions. Add your comments, which students see straight away. You can lock an interaction so the student cannot change it. Select Save Changes.
Add deadlines and To-Dos
-
Select Add Deadline on the right of the TOK roster. You can also add deadlines from the year group Calendar.
Enter the name, date and time, and link the deadline to TOK Essays.
Choose your options: Enable Dropbox for submissions through ManageBac+, Enable TurnItIn to check submissions automatically, Attach Files for resources, and Notify via E-mail to tell students.
-
Select Add Deadline. The deadline shows on the calendar.
-
On the deadline's page, add at least one To-Do and assign it to students, advisors or everyone.
Link the deadline to TOK when you create it. You cannot link it afterwards. Without at least one To-Do, the deadline does not show on student worksheets.
Deadlines show in the Deadlines & To-Dos section of the student's TOK worksheet. Students tick off completed To-Dos and can add personal To-Dos. If a To-Do is assigned to students only, advisors cannot tick it off, and the other way round.
Track progress across students
Select TOK Exhibition or TOK Essays to see the roster. The default view lists students by advisor with their prescribed title, approximate words and status (Needs Approval, Approved or Complete).
- Deadlines view: where each student stands against the deadlines you set.
- Planning and Progress view: how many interactions each student has submitted.
Upload documents and leave notes
-
Upload TOK files in the Documents section. If your account is connected to Google Drive, you can upload from there.
-
Use Notes to leave messages that students can reply to, for example comments or meeting times. Tick Interview Notes to keep a note visible to staff only.
Can students see interview notes?
Not by default. An admin can let students see them in Settings > Security & Permissions.
