Open a worksheet and set the proposal
-
In the DP year group, go to Extended Essay > Proposals to open the EE roster.
-
Select a student's name to open their EE worksheet, with their documents, deadlines and notes.
-
Select Edit Proposal. The student enters the topic, subject and research question and chooses a supervisor from the Supervisor list.
Select Save Changes. The student can then see upcoming EE deadlines and To-Dos.
Only teachers already added to ManageBac+ show in the Supervisor list. To assign supervisors in bulk from the year group's Members tab, see Assigning EE Supervisors. If a subject is missing from the Subject list, see Configuring programme subjects, levels, standards and unit templates.
Review reflections, assessment and the PPF
-
Select Researcher's Reflection Space to read the student's entries. Entries can be text, website links, videos, photos or files, up to 500 MB per file.
-
Select Assessment to mark the essay against the built-in IB criteria. You can export marks and comments to a PDF.
Select Planning and Progress Form to review the first, interim and final reflections. When they are complete, export the comments to the official IB EE RPPF.
Add deadlines and To-Dos
-
In the year group, select Add a New Deadline on the Extended Essay or Calendar tab.
-
Enter the name, date and time, and link the deadline to Extended Essay.
-
Choose your options: Enable Coursework Submissions for submissions through ManageBac+, Enable TurnItIn to check submissions automatically, and Attach Files for resources. Select Add Deadline. It shows on the calendar.
-
Add at least one To-Do to the deadline and assign it to students, advisors or everyone.
Link the deadline to the Extended Essay when you create it. You cannot link it afterwards. Without at least one To-Do, the deadline does not show on the student's worksheet.
Deadlines show on the student's EE worksheet, where you can also review and add To-Dos. If a To-Do is assigned to students only, advisors cannot tick it off, and the other way round.
On the EE tab, the default view lists students by advisor with their subject, topic, research question and status (Needs Approval, Approved or Complete). Switch to the Deadlines view to see progress against each deadline.
Upload documents
Upload reference files in the Extended Essay Documents section of the worksheet. If your account is connected to Google Drive, you can upload from there.
Add notes and interview notes
Use Notes & Interviews to leave messages that students can reply to, for example comments or meeting times.
Open the student's worksheet and scroll to the bottom.
-
Write your note. Tick Interview Note to record progress on that date as an interview. Interview notes are visible to staff only, including the EE coordinator and supervisor.
Can students see interview notes?
Not by default. An admin can turn this on in Settings > Security & Permissions by ticking Browse Interview Notes.
