Create a unit

  1. Open your class and select the Units tab, then Add Unit.

  2. Choose the Unit Template and check the Subject and Levels. Under Share with, tick any other grades that should see the unit.

  3. Enter a Title and a Description. Students and parents can see the description.

  4. Under Timeline, choose the Start Month, Start Week and Duration (weeks). You can also upload a cover image.

  5. Select Add Unit, or Add and Set Up to go straight to the planner.

Units are shared with other classes of the same subject and grade, so colleagues teaching the same course can use and build on them.

Find your way around a unit

Open a unit from the Units tab. It has four tabs:

  • At-a-Glance: a read-only summary, as students and parents see it. Add a cover image here.
  • Planner: where all unit planning happens. Each section has its own Edit Section button.
  • Lessons & Resources: add lessons, resources and tasks, and group them into lesson streams.
  • Assessments: the tasks linked to the unit and what they assess.

Select Unit Outline at the top of the planner to jump to any section and see progress. Select the unit name next to the title to switch to another unit in the class.

Plan collaboratively

  • Several teachers can work on the planner at the same time. Select Edit Section, make your changes, then select Save Changes or Discard.
  • While someone is editing a section, it is locked for everyone else, so changes are not overwritten. Other sections can still be edited.
  • Use Write a reflection on a section to leave a comment, and @mention colleagues to bring them into the conversation.

Add aims, objectives, syllabus and standards

In the Curriculum section of the planner, select Edit Section. Use the tabs to choose the Aims & Objectives, Syllabus, Standards and benchmarks and Content & Skills for the unit, then select Save Changes. Aims, objectives and syllabus points are preloaded for Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel subjects.

Adding standards

  1. In Edit Section, on the standards tab, select Add Standards.

  2. Filter by Standards Set, Subject and Grade, and select the standards. Standards already in the unit are shown in green.

  3. Select Add Standards, or Add & Continue to choose more, then Save Changes.

To remove a standard, untick it in Edit Section and save. If the standards you need are not listed, ask an admin to follow Enabling Standards.

The other sections, such as Inquiry, Connections, Assessment and Learning Experiences, use the text editor and checklists. Save each section after you edit it.

Customise the unit planner (admins)

Go to Settings, choose the programme (for example Cambridge IGCSE) and select Curriculum. On the Unit Planner Templates tab:

  • Choose a template from Templates, then tick or untick components to show or hide them, and change their titles and hint text.
  • Select Add Template to create another template for the programme, for example a bilingual one.
  • Select Save Changes to update every unit that uses the template.

The Standards tab on the same page is where admins choose which standards teachers can add to units.
