Accessing your Classes for the new year
If your Administrator has already created classes for you either through transitioning last year's classes or making new classes for you, you will all classes listed on your Home Menu.
Classes assigned to you also automatically appear in the My Classes page of the Classes menu.
If no classes have been created yet and permissions are given to create your own classes, use the Add New Class button on the My Classes page to create new classes. See our Adding New Classes article for further information on this process.
Preparing your Classes for the new year
1. Class Overview
The Overview page of your classes provides the essential class information on the right navigation panel. Units will automatically appear in the class based on the subject selected and the grade level of the class, dependent on whether last year's class matches in both or not.
2. Class Members
The right navigation panel of the Class Overview page show how many students are assigned to the class or allows teachers to directly access the Members page to add students into the Class. See our Assigning Students to Classes article for further details.
3. Configure Attendance
Via your Class > Attendance, configure your Class Schedule. This page is only available for schools where the Attendance module and Class Attendance is enabled. Select the applicable days and periods and click “Save Changes" at the bottom of the page to set the Attendance for your class. Your administrator may have already imported the Timetable for you and therefore the periods are already set for the class.
Units, Tasks, Lesson Experiences and Resources in your new Classes
1. Units
The Tasks and Units page will show all units in the class that match in subject and grade level. The default List View allows teachers to mark units as Draft if that unit doesn't apply to the class or they wish to hide the unit from student view at this time.
Use the Calendar view at the top of the Units section to see your units across the school year horizontally aligned. Use the Weekly View to display Lesson Experiences and Resources added to them.
Use the Add Unit button on the right navigation panel to create new units as needed.
See our FAQs on Managing Unit Plans (Authors, Sharing, Drafting, Hiding, Finding) article for additional information on Units.
Note: IB DP Studies in Language and Literature and Language Acquisition classes and MYP Language Acquisition classes can further configure the subject options of their classes in the Overview > Edit Class Settings page, if teachers are not seeing the units they expected to see.
2. Tasks
Tasks are specific to the class where they were initially created. That means that new classes will by default not show any Tasks at the top of the Tasks & Units page or the Gradebook. Teachers have multiple options of creating Tasks in the new classes. Add Task from the right navigation panel at the top can be used to create completely new Tasks in the class. If the teacher is assigned to multiple classes of the same subject and grade level, using this option would allow to create the same Task in multiple class sections simultaneously.
Import Task from the right navigation panel will show a list of all Tasks created previously in the subject. The importing option will allow teachers to select the specific Tasks they wish to add to their class in one process. Tasks can be imported from any of the programme grade level and are not limited to the grade level of the class they are to be imported into.
See our Adding & Managing Tasks article for more details on these options.
3. Lesson Experiences and Resources
All Resources that were added to any unit in the previous year as part of the Unit Stream will have automatically been moved into the Resources section of the Stream & Resources section of each unit.
Teachers can recreate the Unit Stream from the Resources section by expanding the list and clicking the up arrow button for the resources they wish to add to the Stream.
The Stream of units are specific to each class where the Unit appears. This allows for differentiation in teaching the same unit across multiple class sections or grade levels.
If the unit previously had Stream or Lesson Experiences created, teachers can use the Import Resources button at the top of the Stream & Resources section to import Stream or Lesson Experiences from other units and classes. That way, teachers can recreate the same Unit Streams in different class sections for each unit.
See our Adding Unit Resources, Tasks & Lesson Experiences from My School ResourceBank for additional information.
4. Files
Use the Files page to add files to the Class that may not fit any of your units as resources or files you want to keep as separate resources for students to access.
Upload File or Add from GDrive (if Google Upload integration is configured for the school) to add files as needed. Folders can be created before or after uploading files to organize these. Files can be dragged and dropped into folders as needed.
The Add Resources button will allow the import of Files that were previously uploaded to classes of the same subject. Like importing Tasks, importing Files is not limited to the grade level of the class to be imported in.
Reviewing last year's Classes
If teachers need to review their last year's classes and data in those, each teacher can open the My Classes page and enable the "Show Archived Classes" filter, which will show all archived classes the teacher is assigned to. This list can be further be concentrated by selecting applicable academic terms from the Terms drop down menu.
Archived Classes will contain all information of the previous year and show student data as long as the students in those classes are still active and not archived as well.
See our Archiving Classes article for additional information.
Two year classes that were transitioned to the next grade level will carry forward the Class data from the previous year within the transitioned class itself. For example in the Show all Tasks list from the Tasks & Units page, teachers can filter by Academic term linked to the class to see previous Terms and Tasks.
General Tips to consider for the New Year
Joining Classes
If Classes were not assigned by an admin level user, teachers can either create their own classes as described above or Join classes from the Browse All Classes page. Click the blue join button for any class you wish to join.
Class Calendars
Use the Class Calendar to configure class-specific Event Categories or Subscribe to Calendar so that all entries (Tasks, Deadlines, Online Lessons, Events) are synched to your selected iCal format online calendars.
Contacting Students and Parents in Classes
Using Messages in the class to welcome students and parents is an efficient way to reach all members of the class. The messages can be posted as web notifications for students and parents and also be delivered as email notifications asking students and parents to open the message in their ManageBac accounts.
