After transitioning, work through this checklist: check classes, users, year groups and settings for the new year.
You have transitioned your account. These steps are recommended, not required, and some can wait until later in the year.

Checklist
Skip anything that does not apply to your school.
| Step | What you do |
|---|---|
| 1. Permissions and access | Staff permissions, profile and class locks, portfolio rights |
| 2. Final checks | Password rules, welcome announcements, branding, website link, unit streams |
| 3. Open to your community | Handbooks, introduction sessions, mobile app |
Step 1. Permissions and access
1A. Staff permissions
Go to Settings > Security & Permissions > Teachers & Advisors. Use Default Permissions for all teachers, Role Permissions for groups of staff, and Individual Permissions to give extra rights to one person. Keep the defaults restrictive, so only a few people can change your account set-up.
What each individual permission allows
| Permission | What it allows |
|---|---|
| Attendance Manager | Edit all attendance data across the account |
| Import Users | Import new students, teachers and parents |
| Class Management | Full access: set up, archive, lock and assign classes in bulk across all programmes. Add New Class: create classes only |
| Activity Groups | Full access: all group admin options (bulk assign advisors, lock, add, archive). Add New Group: create groups only. None: no group admin options |
| Reports | Full access: edit grades across the account and generate report cards. Proofing and Review: view and edit term grades and see student reports |
| Student Directory | Full access: create, edit, archive and delete student profiles, and full access to year group worksheets. Read-only: view profiles and the student list |
| Engagement Analytics | Full access: engagement for all students. Class Members and Homeroom: only their own students |
| Academics | Programme settings in Settings > Academics |
1B. Lock student and parent profiles
Go to Settings > Security & Permissions > General. Locking stops students and parents changing their profile details, such as name, email and avatar. They can still change their password.
Lock profiles, so nobody overwrites synced data by accident.
1C. Lock classes
A locked class cannot be left by its members or joined by anyone else. Lock classes if you have assigned everyone and do not want changes; leave them unlocked if users should find their own classes.
- Open Lock ClassesGo to Classes > Browse All Classes and select Lock Classes in the Details panel.
- Choose who is lockedPick the tab: Full (teachers and students), Teachers only or Students only.
- Choose classes and saveSelect classes, or all of them (none to unlock all), and select Save Changes.
When a class is locked for teachers (Teachers or Full), its teachers cannot open Edit Class Settings.
1D. Portfolio rights
Let students and parents add to the student portfolio in Settings > your programme > Portfolio > Access & Permissions. See Uploading and Organising your Portfolio and Adding Coursework, Goals and Reflections to Student Portfolios.
Step 2. Final checks
2A. Password rules
By default users must create strong passwords. You can allow weaker passwords (at least 8 characters; common words and number sequences are still rejected) for students or parents in Settings > Security & Permissions > General.
Weak passwords raise security risk, and users with weak passwords cannot verify their accounts in the Faria Accounts Portal.
2B. Welcome announcements
Add a pinned welcome to year groups and classes, with a greeting and links to key resources. Students and parents see it first when they open the page.
- Year groups: Year Group > Overview > Edit Year Group Settings
- Classes: Class > Overview > Edit Class Settings
2C. School branding and home page
Go to Settings > School Settings > Brand Customisation to set the default landing page, theme, wallpaper and sign-in background. Each user can still change their own. See Customising your Landing Page and Home Menu.
2D. Link to ManageBac+ from your school website
Ask your website manager to add a button to your school's ManageBac+ site, so students, parents and teachers can find it easily. Anyone who gets lost can use Find My School with their ManageBac+ email address.
2E. Teachers: bring last year's unit streams and lessons into new classes
Resources in a unit's Lessons & Resources tab carry over with the unit. The order of the stream and the lesson plans belong to each class, so teachers import them into their new classes:
-
Open the unit in the new classGo to the Lessons & Resources tab and select Import Lesson(s).
- Choose the unitIn the My School tab, choose the unit to import from.
- Choose the lesson experiencesLesson plans differ between classes, so choose which class to import from.
- Choose the resourcesSelect all or individual resources, then Proceed with Import or Proceed and Import Next.
Step 3. Open to your community
3A. Upload handbooks and guides
Go to Settings > your programme > Guides.
- Use the Community Engagement (including CAS), core (EE, TOK) and project (PP, CP, PBL) tabs to upload guides and add guidance for students.
- Use the Handbooks tab for programme handbooks and parent handbooks.
- Select Choose File to upload (Word or PDF), Update to replace or the bin icon to delete, then Save Changes.
3B. Run introduction sessions
Plan short ManageBac+ introductions at the start of the year, so everyone knows how your school uses it and where to find things. Use the short video introductions or the detailed webinars for students and parents. For a sample agenda, ask ManageBac+ Support.
3C. Share the mobile app
ManageBac+ has apps for iOS and Android: download the mobile app. Mention it in your welcome announcement.
Need a review?
- Account review: email your account manager, or submit a request, with the subject "Account Transition Review".
