Configuring programme subjects, levels, standards and unit templates

Quick answer

Go to Settings, select the programme and open Subjects to enable the subjects your school offers. Standards are under Curriculum > Standards and unit planner templates under Curriculum > Unit Planner Templates. Only enabled subjects can be used when you create classes.

Configuring programme subjects, levels, standards and unit templates

For admins setting up each programme's subjects, curriculum standards and unit planner templates before classes are created.

Enable subjects

  1. Go to Settings, select the programme and open Subjects.

  2. Select Enable for each subject your school offers.

  3. Optional: select Add Subject Group to group related subjects, or Add Subject to create your own subject.

  4. Select Save Changes.

Add Subject and Add Subject Group are only available for IB PYP and non-IB programmes. For IB DP and IB MYP, the subject list follows the IB's available subjects, and you enable or disable those your school offers.

Set IB PYP subject strands and phases

  1. Go to Settings > IB Primary Years > Subjects and select Edit for the subject.

  2. Choose whether strands are organised by phases or year levels.

  3. Rename strands as needed and enable the phases or year levels you use.

  4. Select Add Strand to add a new strand.

Set IB MYP subject levels

After enabling your MYP subjects, go to Settings > Middle Years > Subjects > Options & Levels to set the available phases for each subject.

Set IB DP options, levels and languages

  1. Go to Settings > IB Diploma > Subjects > Options & Levels.

  2. Set subject options (such as ab initio or core options) and levels (such as SL or HL).

  3. If your school offers the Diploma in more than one working language, set the subject languages.

  4. Enable the subjects available for the Extended Essay under Extended Essay Subjects.

Add subjects for non-IB programmes

This applies to Pearson Edexcel (International GCSE, BTEC, International Advanced Levels), Cambridge (Lower Secondary, IGCSE, Advanced), International Middle Years Curriculum, International Primary Curriculum, Advanced Placement, and High School, Middle School and Primary School programmes.

  1. Go to Settings, select the programme (for example Advanced Placement) and open Subjects. Enable the subjects you offer.

  2. If there is no subject group yet, select Add Subject Group first.

  3. Select Add Subject, choose the Subject Group, enter the Subject Name and select Add Subject.

  4. To change a subject you added, select Edit.

  5. Under Options & Levels, set options (for example Core) and levels (for example Extended).

Import subjects in bulk

  1. Go to Settings, select the programme and open Subjects > Import Subjects.

  2. Download the CSV template and add your subjects. Fill in Subject Group and Subject Name for every row.

  3. Upload the completed file.

To import into an existing subject group, the group name must match exactly. Duplicate subject names may cause import errors.

Add curriculum standards

Go to Settings, select the programme and open Curriculum > Standards. Select Add From Repository to add standards from the standards library. They show under Regular Standards. See Adding Standards as an Administrator.

PYP Scope & Sequence

  1. Go to Settings > Primary Years > Curriculum > Standards > Scope & Sequence.

  2. Select a subject, grade level or phase, and strand to see the Overall Expectations, Conceptual Understandings and Learning Outcomes. Select Export to Excel to download them.

Add or customise unit planner templates

Add a template

  1. Go to Settings, select the programme and open Curriculum > Unit Planner Templates. Select Add New Template.

  2. Enter a title and select Create Template.

For IB PYP, choose Early Years in the Template list. The template then includes Early Years Approaches to Learning options for teachers.

Customise a template

  1. Choose the template from the list.

  2. Tick or untick sections to show or hide them.

  3. Edit section titles and hints to match your school's terms, and set up Reflections if needed.

  4. Select Save Changes.
