Planning Interdisciplinary Units (IDUs)
Planning Interdisciplinary Units follows the same procedures as planning MYP units, with the exception of a few differences.
Under the Classes tab, select the class in question. Next, select the Tasks & Units tab. To add a new unit, click on Add Unit, or select an existing unit and click the unit title and then Edit for the section you wish to edit. Interdisciplinary Units need to be marked as such in the Summary section.
Mark as Interdisciplinary Unit
Within the Summary section, select the Interdisciplinary Unit type to open the dropdown for Additional Subjects. There, select the subject(s) this unit is to be shared with. This marks the unit as Interdisciplinary Unit.
Selecting the Interdisciplinary Unit type will then enable the Forms of Integration and Purpose of the Integration options.
Please note that the unit will be shared with the selected subject(s) and grade level(s). Click Saves Changes to continue.
Interdisciplinary and Disciplinary Aims, Objectives and Assessment Criteria
You can add Interdisciplinary and Subject specific MYP Aims and Objectives in the Curriculum section.
The Assessment section or tab will then also include the Interdisciplinary Assessment Criteria as well as subject criteria for the linked subjects.
Interdisciplinary Projects
Configuring ID Project Templates
Via Settings > IB Middle Years Programme > Project-based Learning
Create a new project template using the Add Template button on the right navigation panel of the Project-based Learning Settings page.
Set the Project Title, Abbreviation and type as Interdisciplinary Project. Then choose the applicable IDU from the dropdown menu. Each Interdisciplinary Project must be linked to an existing IDU.
Change the Project cover and icon as needed or add additional information in the Project Description. Click Add Template to create the ID project template.
Click the template title on the Project-based Learning page to access the project template and make changes to it.
Use the Framework tab of the template to enable and configure Proposal, Journal, Presentation, Reflections, Deadlines & To Dos, Project Documents, Notes & Interviews sections on the Project Workspace. By default IDU Projects come preloaded with Proposal and Journal options configured.
The Assessment section of ID Project templates shows ID Criteria enabled for assessment. Optionally, add in additional Project Assessment Rubrics or enable Term Grades rubrics to assess this project with Term Grades. If Presentation is enabled for the template, schools can also configure Presentation Rubrics for the project.
Use the Forms tab of the template to configure any potential forms you want to export for this project. The Forms editor is more commonly needed for Personal Project or Community Project.
Use the Terminology tab of the template to customise Project Terminology and Student Progress indicators for this project.
Enabling ID Project Templates
Via Year Group > Edit Year Group Settings
All ID Project templates need to be enabled in the Edit Year Group Settings page of Year Groups. This will add a section for the Project to the Year Group for students and teachers to access.
Accessing and Assigning ID Project Supervisors
Via Year Group > Projects > Interdisciplinary templates
Access the Project template either via the Year Group and ID Projects tab, or via the Class where the IDU is linked. All students in the Year Group will be listed in the IDU Advisor list. Only students in the classes where the IDU appears will be able to access the ID Project workspaces.
Only students in the Class will appear in the IDU tab for the project.
Via Year Group > Members > Interdisciplinary Project Advisors
ID Project Advisors can be assigned in bulk via the Members > IDU Advisors tab within the Year Group where the ID Project template is enabled.
Students can also select the Project Advisor while editing the Project Proposal.
Assessment
Interdisciplinary Project Assessment
Project Advisors and teachers can use the Assessment tab of the ID Project template to assess students with the Interdisciplinary Criteria.
Once the project is assessed with Criteria, a sum is listed at the bottom of the page and the teacher can leave an overall Comment for the IDU.
Interdisciplinary Term Grades Assessment
MYP interdisciplinary criteria can also be assessed via the class Gradebook > Term Grades tab.
1. Click on ID Assessment to display the ID Assessment grading scale.
2. Assess all ID criteria to see a total ID sum. If not all criteria are assessed the ID sum will appear as N/A.
Note that the same ID Assessment follows the student to the gradebook of each class that they are a part of to allow for teachers of various subjects to be able to assess the same student according to the shared interdisciplinary criteria. There will be a notification under the ID criteria letting teachers know who last updated the ID Assessment.
