Pre-Setup Required: Permissions
1. Reviewing Administrators
Administrators have full-rights to view and edit all Behaviour notes for all students. These permissions are restricted slightly for Homeroom Advisors, and further still for teachers and regular advisors. Thus these user types and roles should be reviewed prior to enabling the Behaviour feature.
Via Settings > School Directory, you can adjust user rights by:
- Promoting Teachers & Advisors to administrators
- Demoting Admins to an advisor
2. Reviewing Teachers & Advisors
via the Settings > Security & Permissions > Teachers & Advisors pages
Teachers can have access to the Behaviour Notes History page with two different access levels - Homeroom Only access, i.e. only see Behaviour Notes History for students they are assigned to as the Homeroom Advisor, or Full Access to see all Behaviour Notes information in the history page.
3. Reviewing Assigned Advisors
From your ManageBac Dashboard, go to Year Groups, and select the year group you want to work with.
You will be able to manually assign students via the Members tab by clicking on each category’s Advisors tab, or download a CSV template to Bulk Assign students.
Note: You'll need student and teacher emails in order to bulk assign
Behaviour Settings
1. Configure Behaviour Options
Via Settings, the Behaviour tab will allow Admins, Homeroom Advisors, and Classroom Teachers to add Behaviour Incidents on Student Profiles and share with Parents.
To enable the Behaviour tab on Student Profiles, navigate Settings > Behaviour & Discipline > Enable Behaviour Notes.
Behaviour Types are added by default and can be Added and Edited.
Behaviour Types can also be marked as Positive Behaviour types and reordered.
2. Adding Next Steps
With Next Steps, Behaviour Notes will include the action to be taken regarding the incident added on a Student Profile. This can be found by scrolling further down the page.
Next Steps can be
- Created via Add Next Step
- Edited or reordered to meet your needs.
- Once a Next Step has been used, you will be unable to delete it on this page. Please contact support@managebac.com to request deletion if needed
Adding Behaviour Notes

Via a Student Profile > Behaviour tab, Admins and the student’s Homeroom Advisor and Classroom Teachers can add a new behaviour note via the Add Behaviour Note button.
The Note will include the Incident time, Behaviour Type, Next Step, Action Date, and a text box to include Incident details.
Previous Behaviour notes will be listed chronologically. They will include next steps highlighted at the bottom of each note.
The Note can be marked to be "Visible to Parents" and "Shared with Parents via e-mail". An email will automatically be sent to the student’s Homeroom Advisor when a new note is added. The Note will not be shared with Students.

Tracking Behaviour & Discipline
Whole-school Behaviour Incidents Export
Whole-school Behaviour Incidents can be exported to Excel via Settings > Behaviour & Discipline > Behaviour Notes History > Export to Excel.
Exports include full details of the date & time of the incident, Notes & Next Steps.
Use Private Groups for Monitoring
A Locked group is only accessible to those that are a member. To create a Group, go to Groups > Add Group.
You can lock a group by selecting the Lock Group checkbox when creating a group.
Locked Groups can provide a private location for Admins & Advisors to further discuss incidents as needed. Locked Groups can be used for a variety of purposes, including private messages which are only visible for Teachers (found via the Messages tab), or allowing all teachers involved with a student’s individualized education program to keep in contact.
Public API
The ManageBac public API allows you to connect your schools account to external platforms not directly integrated with ManageBac. The settings for this can only be set be an admin on your schools account.
Behaviour End-points allow you to retrieve all the available behaviour notes in the school.
