Legacy Subjects Deprecation
Legacy subjects, defined as subjects no longer supported for certain IB DP sessions, are maintained on ManageBac for a certain period in order to avoid disturbances for schools completing exam sessions or with ongoing classes. An example is the now legacy DP Mathematics subjects being maintained for November session schools as their 2020 programme came through to completion. You can read more on how ManageBac handles curriculum changes here.
Action Required
For any students that may have selected these Legacy subjects as an Exam subject on their plans worksheet for May 2021 by mistake, or for any teachers who created new Mathematics classes in these subjects unintentionally, an administrator or DP Coordinator on your account will need to action a subject mapping to the newly supported Mathematics courses.
Please note that if a candidate took a Legacy subject as an anticipated exam in DP1, (for example, Math Studies SL) they will complete the remaining subjects in DP2 and no action is required.
Exam Subject Choices on Plan Worksheets
For students who have selected subjects on their plans that are no longer offered this academic year, you will need to ensure you select a current Exam Subject for them, prior to completing registration through to IBIS.
Updating Legacy Subjects in Bulk
You can log-in to your ManageBac account and resolve the subject choice via the in-app Bulk Update notice that will appear (see above), or via your IB DP Year Group > Plans > Bulk Update Legacy Subjects.
Select the relevant subject in place of the legacy subject for each student, and Save Changes. All student plans worksheets will update to reflection the new selections.
Updating Legacy Subject selections individually via a Student's Plan Worksheet
You can navigate to your IB DP Year Group > Plans > select the student, and edit their worksheet individually. The deprecated notice will display for any previous subject selection no longer supported. Only valid subject offerings will appear for new selection. Save Changes to action the new selections.
What happens if we have already registered the student via ManageBac to IBIS?
If you have already completed registration from ManageBac to IBIS, please navigate to IBIS directly and update their subject accordingly, as you cannot re-register the student via ManageBac.
However, we strongly recommend as a second step also updating this on your students' Plans worksheets on ManageBac. Although this doesn't re-sync to IBIS, it is important to ensure you have the correct subject information via student Plans for individualised exam schedules, IB e-coursework uploads, and student portfolios.
Class & Resource Subject Migration
If your teachers have created DP Mathematics classes or units linked to legacy Mathematics subjects options by mistake, ManageBac Support is able to assist with mapping the classes and resources to the respective Mathematics subjects for you.
Please note this process does not relate to registering students for their IB exams, so this can take place prior to, or after November 15th.
Please contact our support team with a list of classes, by class ID, and their subject mapping.
Example
Class ID: Math123 DP2 Mathematics - map to Mathematics Applications & Interpretation.
You can email us the list of classes to support@managebac.com, or complete this form.
