ManageBac+ AI Writing Assistant

The ManageBac+ AI features allow schools to manage end user access to large-language models (LLM).

Design Goals

ManageBac+ AI Writing Assistant is a general-purpose utility designed to assist users with tasks such as generating and editing text. It is available across the platform in text input areas to support everyday workflows.

The Writing Assistant prioritises user control. The only information sent to the model is what the user explicitly types along with a standard system prompt. No hidden context is transmitted. For further technical details, see ManageBac+ AI: Technical Overview .

Teachers are encouraged to use their professional judgement when working with the AI assistant. The system is designed to reward clear, thoughtful prompts rather than minimal input.

Value Proposition

ManageBac+ AI Writing Assistant is embedded across the platform as a general-purpose tool. While many external tools provide similar capabilities, they may not offer the same assurances regarding data handling and model training that are required for regular use in education environments.

For more information on safeguarding and data handling, see ManageBac+ AI: Technical Overview .

Effective Prompt Writing

Since the AI responds directly to what is written in the prompt, clear instructions produce more useful results. Examples include:

For a unit plan:

  • "Help me write a short description for an MYP unit on Ancient Civilizations for grade 10 students that includes cultural achievements."

For a discussion forum:

  • "Prompt students to submit which ancient civilizations they wish to explore in this unit, including research strategies for middle school students."

For learning objectives:

  • "Suggest objectives for a student-led project involving visits to local museums."

For report comments:

  • "Write a comment summarising a student's academic performance that could improve through stronger note-taking habits."

Effectively Iterating on Responses

Effective use of AI often involves refining results through additional prompts.

This MYP unit on Ancient Civilizations for grade 10 students explores the cultural achievements of early societies including Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece and Rome. Students investigate innovations, art, architecture and literature while examining how these cultures shaped the modern world.

Teachers can refine responses by providing further instructions, such as requesting fewer words or adjusting the focus of the content.

  • "Restate to indicate students will choose their civilisation."
  • "Add connections to students' own cultural experiences."

With iteration, the description may evolve into a more concise version:

This MYP unit explores ancient civilizations and their cultural achievements. Students investigate the innovations and ideas of a civilisation of their choice while drawing connections between historical developments and their own cultural perspectives.

Teachers can continue refining the response before inserting it into the editor using the Keep option.

Responsible Use

The AI assistant does not automatically know information stored elsewhere in ManageBac+ or external sources. It generates suggestions based solely on the prompt provided.

Important: The author remains responsible for reviewing and finalising all generated content before use.
