Attendance types
ManageBac+ has 2 forms of attendance:
- Homeroom Attendance: recorded once a day by the homeroom advisor.
- Class Attendance: recorded for each class period by the class teacher.
If you only take attendance once per day, we recommend selecting Homeroom Only and recording all entries under My Workspace > Homeroom > Attendance.
Record homeroom attendance
-
Go to My Workspace > Homeroom > Attendance. You see the students assigned to you, filtered by year group programme and sorted alphabetically by last name.
Select an attendance category for each student, such as P: Present, A: Absent or L: Late. To mark everyone at once, use the Mark All Students As dropdown.
To add a comment, select the bubble icon next to the student.
Homeroom is a customisable term in your school's Terminology settings, so it may appear as Homeroom, Advisory, Section or similar.
From the same page you can also:
- View attendance across the days of the week, or select a particular day from the calendar.
- Select the Calendar icon to view homeroom attendance records across terms and as a percentage.
- View a Daily Homeroom Summary of today's homeroom attendance.
- See when attendance was Last Updated.
- Select Export to Excel for daily, weekly and monthly attendance logs.
Homeroom attendance tips
- Homeroom attendance marked as Absent shows in the student's classes for that day, to give context to class teachers.
- IB Primary Years: if Substitute Recording is enabled in your Attendance Settings, homeroom advisors also see any student in a class they teach, as well as the students assigned to them.
- Attendance not recorded is automatically marked as Present at midnight on your school's account, so you only need to update students who were not present.
Record class attendance
You can do this when Class Attendance is enabled on your school's account.
-
Go to My Workspace, scroll down to Classes and select the Programme from the dropdown. Select the Attendance icon next to the class.
-
Alternatively, go to Classes, select your class, then select Attendance.
-
If an admin has not set up your class timetable, configure the class rotation and periods first. Select the periods and, if you want, enter a room location. See Configuring Class Timetables.
-
Select an attendance category for each student, such as P: Present, A: Absent or L: Late, or use the Mark All Students As dropdown. Select the bubble icon to add a comment.
On the class attendance page:
- Each student's Homeroom attendance status shows under their name. Hover over the chat icon to see the homeroom advisor's comment.
- Double or multiple periods on the same day appear in separate rows, so you can enter attendance for each.
- Your class timetable shows on the right. Edit it if needed through Attendance Settings.
- Select the Calendar icon to view class attendance records across terms and as a percentage.
Common questions
Why does the date jump when I select a day in the calendar?
You can only select dates when your class is timetabled. For example, if your class has no period on a Thursday and you select a Thursday, the calendar jumps to the previous or next available date. This stops attendance being entered on the wrong day.
What happens if I do not record attendance?
Attendance not recorded is automatically marked as Present at midnight on your school's account. You only need to update students who were not present.
A student is missing from my homeroom list. What should I check?
Check that you are assigned as their homeroom advisor, either on the student's profile or in the Year Group Members tab. See Assigning Homeroom Advisors.
