OpenApply Mini Profile in ManageBac
View curated OpenApply student information directly from ManageBac without switching platforms. Schools can control exactly which fields teachers see through configuration.
Schools using both ManageBac and OpenApply with the Faria SyncHub integration can now give teachers access to important student context directly within ManageBac.
The OpenApply Mini Profile brings together useful application information, including tags, application history, and selected custom fields, while allowing administrators to carefully control which information is shared with teaching staff.
Overview
The OpenApply Mini Profile allows ManageBac teachers and advisors to view a student's selected OpenApply information directly from the student's ManageBac profile. Teachers can access important background context without opening OpenApply or using a separate login.
The information displayed is fully controlled by school administrators. Teachers only see the tags, application history statuses, and custom fields that have been enabled in the SyncHub Data Exchange configuration.
This feature is especially useful for form tutors, advisors, and teachers who need quick access to information such as medical alerts, learning support needs, consent records, or family information when supporting students.
What's New
The OpenApply Mini Profile introduces a more connected experience between ManageBac and OpenApply, allowing schools to surface relevant student information in the right context.
- Embedded OpenApply information: Teachers can view selected OpenApply data directly within ManageBac student profiles.
- Configurable visibility: Administrators decide which tags, application history statuses, and custom fields are available.
- Student Profile Mini Profile: A section appears in the sidebar of synced student profiles.
- Attendance Mini Profile: Administrators can configure a separate, independent field set for the compact attendance view.
- Improved field configuration: Administrators can search custom fields and choose clearer display names.
- Custom display names: Field labels can be displayed using the original OpenApply label, field name, or a custom name.

Tips & Best Practices
- Configure only the information teachers need for their role to keep the Mini Profile focused and useful.
- Consider using the Attendance Mini Profile for a smaller set of high-priority information, such as medical alerts, that teachers may need during attendance taking.
- Use custom display names to make field labels easier for teachers to understand in ManageBac.
- Use the Review feature to confirm how information appears before making it available to teachers.
- Review configured fields regularly to ensure displayed information remains relevant and aligned with school policies.
- Remember that Student Profile and Attendance configurations are independent. A field can appear in one, both, or neither view.
Warnings & Important Notes
- Teachers only see information that administrators have configured. The Mini Profile does not expose all OpenApply data.
- The Mini Profile only appears for students with a matching synced OpenApply record.
- Standard synced information such as names, grades, and enrolment status continues to rely on the regular overnight SyncHub sync.
- The Mini Profile does not provide a link to open the student's full OpenApply record. Teachers view embedded information only.
- Student Profile and Attendance Mini Profile settings are configured separately. Updating one does not automatically update the other.
- Field renaming only changes how information appears in ManageBac. It does not change the original OpenApply field label.
- Yes/No fields are displayed as read-only checkboxes and cannot be edited from ManageBac.
- Document links open files directly in a new browser tab. There is no built-in document viewer.
- Formatting from OpenApply is intentionally removed. Bold, italics, and other markup are displayed as plain text.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can access the OpenApply Mini Profile?
Teachers and advisors at schools using both ManageBac and OpenApply with the SyncHub integration enabled can access the Mini Profile for synced students. The information available depends on the fields configured by school administrators.
Why can't I see the Mini Profile section for a student?
The Mini Profile only appears for students with a matching synced OpenApply record. If the student is not synced to OpenApply, the Mini Profile section will not appear in ManageBac.
Can teachers see all information stored in OpenApply?
No. Teachers only see the information administrators have selected in the SyncHub Data Exchange configuration. Schools control which tags, application history statuses, and custom fields are displayed.
Does the Mini Profile open OpenApply?
No. The Mini Profile displays selected OpenApply information directly within ManageBac. There is no link or button that opens the student's full OpenApply profile.
Are Student Profile and Attendance Mini Profile fields the same?
No. These two views are configured independently. Administrators can select different fields for the Student Profile sidebar and the Attendance registry view.
Can administrators rename fields displayed to teachers?
Yes. Administrators can choose the original OpenApply label, the field name, or create a custom display label. These changes only affect how the field appears in ManageBac and do not change the field in OpenApply.
Can teachers edit Yes/No fields or documents from ManageBac?
No. Yes/No fields appear as read-only checkboxes, and document fields are provided as links for viewing or downloading. The underlying OpenApply information cannot be edited from ManageBac.
Why does a Mini Profile show "No data to display"?
This appears when no fields have been configured for that Mini Profile surface. Administrators can select fields for the Student Profile or Attendance view to populate the section.
Are OpenApply formatting options preserved in ManageBac?
No. Formatting such as bold text, italics, and other markup is removed so that teachers see consistent plain-text information.
