Managing Assignments with GDoc Templates


Assignment View

After creating an assignment with a GDoc template, each student will be able to access it through the GDoc editor within ManageBac if their Google Drive account matches the e-mail address in their Profile.

Until the students open the Assignment the status will be reported as Waiting. Afterwards, the status will change to In Progress. Once the GDoc file has been submitted the status will change to Submitted.

Clicking on the student name will open the GDoc Editor, Annotations and Comments tabs.

Google Docs Editor

Using the left navigation menu you can browse users' work. In the center of screen, Teachers and Admins can make changes to the live document.

Submitting Coursework: Click Submit Coursework to submit a student's documents. Once submitted, student permissions are set to 'View only'.

Locking Coursework: Independent of submitting a document, click the 'lock' icon to prevent a student from making changes without submitting the document.

Resetting Submissions: If students need to make revisions teachers are able to reset their submission which will revert the status to In Progress.

Annotating Coursework: Annotations can then be done via the Annotations tab, see further instructions in the next step. 

Annotate using the Vantage Reader

Once a submission is made either by the teacher or the student, use Vantage Reader for annotations. If multiple submissions have been made (by clicking Reset and resubmitting the document), then they will all be available via the Submission dropdown menu.


Annotations should be displayed in the right navigational panel. Not that these annotations may not appear for smaller screen sizes. To resolve, click Pages and zoom out.

Communicating via Comments

Teachers and students can communicate via the Comments tab. Simply select the student from the left nav, add a comment, and click Post Note.
